Anglo Irish Bank is fully euro compliant and we have redesignated all relevant customer accounts to euro.

It has been business as usual from 1st January 2002 and Anglo Irish Bank continues to maintain its distinctive high quality of services and delivery.

Please take note of the following information:

Account Redesignation

  • As part of the account redesignation process, the account prefix on former Irish pound accounts has been changed to euro
  • The account prefix identifies the currency of each account and is the first 4 digits (previously first 3) in an account number
  • The new prefix will identify it as being euro
  • If you have accounts in non-euro currencies, they have not been changed in any way.

Please note your six-digit client account will not change

  • You may find that your sub account numbers have been redesignated also
  • This occurs if you hold more than one account in any other of the currencies that have been redesignated to euro.

Getting used to the euro

As part of our commitment to assisting you over this period, you should remember the following:

  • All statements, confirmations, interest certificates will have dual display until at least March, allowing you to become familiar with the new currency
  • If you lodge Irish Pounds to your euro account, you will see both currencies shown for the transaction
  • Your opening and closing balances will also be shown in euro and Irish Pounds
  • As and from 1st January 2002 your account will be in euro only and it will not be possible to make or receive payments in legacy currencies
  • Cheques should only be written in euro from 1st January 2002
  • All direct debits, standing orders or cheques issued by Anglo Irish Bank are now in euro
