Anglo Irish Bank Corporation plc announced today (24th July 2002) that Fitch Ratings, the international credit ratings agency, has assigned a long term credit rating of A- to Anglo Irish Banks issue of GBP160m (250m) Tier One Non-Innovative Capital Securities (TONICS).
Fitch has also upgraded the long term credit rating on Anglo Irish Banks GBP200m (312m) Perpetual Capital Securities issue, launched in June 2001, from BBB+ to A-.
These upgrades arise following excellent financial performance in recent years and reflects the Banks standing in the international capital markets.
Commenting on the upgrades, Mr Bernard Daly, Director of Treasury, said:
These strong credit upgrades for our Tier One Capital issues are very welcome. They underpin the increased capacity of the bank to raise Tier One Capital, without recourse to ordinary shareholders.
